Position: Port Assistant

Reporting to: Port Manager

Employment Type: Permanent

Compensation: £12.07 per hour

Work Schedule: 14 hours weekly during Summer, 10 hours weekly during Winter

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the flow of passengers and vehicles boarding and disembarking vessels with clear instructions
  • Handle the sale and validation of tickets for passengers and vehicles
  • Coordinate arrangements during service disruptions
  • Address emergency requirements outside of regular hours
  • Oversee all tasks related to ship movements, gangway operations, and vessel securing
  • Marshal vehicles effectively
  • Respond to customer inquiries
  • Maintain statistical records and data consolidation
  • Operate VHF and PA systems
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Port Manager

Required Skills and Experience:
Essential Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of CalMac services
  • Proficient in computer use with excellent communication skills
  • Customer-oriented with a proactive approach to service
  • Ability to commute to the ferry terminal daily
  • Valid UK Driving License
  • Flexibility to work shifts and weekends
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently
  • Team player in a dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with VHF and PA systems
  • Ability to collaborate with port staff for effective communication and coordination
