Role Summary

As the Harbor Operations Supervisor, you will report directly to the Area Operations Manager, overseeing the effective and secure management of the Ports and Slipways under your jurisdiction. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all customer and business partner interactions, as well as operational service requirements, are met in alignment with the company's standards and commitments.

You will ensure that all port activities comply with Health & Safety regulations, and that your team is well-equipped and trained to deliver a comprehensive service to customers. Additionally, you will identify avenues for revenue enhancement, assist in cost management, and ensure that all expenditures, including staffing and service operations, remain within budgetary constraints.

In this role, you will be stationed at the Craignure port office, managing operations across multiple locations including Tobermory, Kilchoan, Lochaline, Fishnish, Fionnphort, Iona, Bull Hole, and Dearg Phort.

Key Responsibilities


• Oversee departmental processes in accordance with company expectations, ensuring thorough consultation with relevant stakeholders when modifying existing processes.

• Accountable to the Area Operations Manager for the provision of a safe and efficient operation of the Ports and Slipways.

• Manage customer and business partner relationships, ensuring operational service requirements are fulfilled as per company standards.

• Develop and manage staff schedules, ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet service demands within budgetary limits.

• Maintain strict control over all operational costs, ensuring adherence to budgetary guidelines.

• Direct port operations in compliance with Health & Safety regulations, ensuring safe working practices are consistently followed.

• Identify and implement strategies for revenue growth and cost efficiency.

• Collaborate with the Area Manager and Human Resources to manage staffing processes including recruitment and disciplinary actions.

• Ensure accurate ticketing and revenue collection in accordance with company regulations.

• Conduct regular inspections of port facilities to ensure they are safe and well-maintained.

• Responsible for the collection of fees from vessels or third parties as required.

• Participate in work schedules to ensure continuous service coverage and respond to emergencies as needed.

• Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Area Operations Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

HNC/HND qualification or equivalent is essential. Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of implementing change. Proficient in communication, negotiation, and problem-solving, with the ability to prepare clear reports. Familiarity with computer applications, particularly Word and Excel, is desirable. Must possess a valid driver's license for travel between ports.
