We are in search of a skilled and adaptable text editor to enhance our global editing team. This role involves collaborating with news managers and journalists worldwide to ensure that AP content is not only accurate and timely but also creatively packaged for diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities: In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring that urgent news is published promptly, guiding accurate reporting to AP members and clients. You will quickly identify the core elements of a story, pinpointing areas that require elaboration or clarification, and enhancing the reporting and writing to resonate with AP's global audience. As a cooperative team member, you will engage with a variety of topics and collaborate with reporters internationally, and may occasionally be tasked with reporting breaking news from the desk. Additionally, you may be called upon to discover and verify significant user-generated content, create compelling social media promotions, and utilize digital tools to present stories in innovative formats.

Ideal Candidate Profile: We seek an exceptional text editor who is passionate about guiding both breaking news and in-depth stories to publication, and who enjoys assisting reporters in articulating complex narratives in clear and engaging ways. You should be capable of supporting reporters throughout the reporting, writing, and presentation phases, including collaboration with colleagues in remote locations. You thrive in fast-paced environments and can swiftly adjust priorities as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, such as a minimum of one year of full-time work at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.
  • All candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English. Proficiency in an additional language is advantageous.
  • Willingness to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, as AP operates 24/7.
