About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Deputy News Editor to join our team at Reach PLC. As a key member of our news desk, you will play a crucial role in shaping and setting the news agenda for millions of readers around the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct coverage on major breaking news stories, both domestic and foreign, to ensure the Mirror stays ahead of the competition.
  • Sub-edit and manage copy to ensure accuracy and attention-grabbing headlines.
  • Find, write, and develop stories that appeal to our UK and global audiences.
  • Guide and support other journalists in your team, ensuring all copy is legally sound and meets IPSO guidelines and the Mirror's standards.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and shifts, to meet the demands of a dynamic news environment.

Requirements

  • Experience as a senior journalist and editor with an NCTJ or equivalent journalism qualification.
  • Deep knowledge of media law and a strong track record of writing and editing breaking news stories at a national or major regional title.
  • First-rate editing, writing, and subbing skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent eye for detail and ability to provide guidance and encouragement to reporters in your team.
