Position Overview
As a vital member of the Marketing & Communications team, the Communications Planner will report directly to the Head of Marketing & Communications. This role is designed to establish a comprehensive project strategy, manage and compose briefs, and craft essential messaging that highlights customer advantages. The Communications Planner will also oversee various channels to ensure cohesive messaging tailored for each platform.
Role Objectives
This newly created position aims to enhance efficiency, synchronize communications, and provide clarity across our messaging framework. You will engage in a variety of projects, including demand management, leak responses, smart meter initiatives, and water conservation campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Planner will devise customer communication strategies for Affinity Water, aiming to effectively connect with our target demographics. We take pride in our brand identity, mission, and the way we engage with our customers.
Core Duties Include:
- Overseeing the creation and execution of communication briefs, campaigns, and messaging.
- Collaborating with channel managers to customize key messages for specific platforms.
- Co-managing annual planning and aiding in the development of content calendars alongside other managers.
- Building and nurturing strong relationships with internal stakeholders to enhance the development and coordination of strategic communications aligned with our business objectives.
- Presenting and advocating for overarching messaging and strategies to senior leadership.
- Understanding customer journey maps to identify where key messages should be crafted.
- Working closely with teams to develop campaign strategies, focusing on engaging content and innovative campaign concepts.
- Implementing processes to ensure continuous improvement and effective collaboration with channel owners and customer communications teams.
- Acting as a liaison among channel owners, the broader Marketing & Communications team, and occasionally external agency partners.
- Taking on special projects and tasks as assigned, providing updates on ongoing briefs.
- Supporting and promoting comprehensive marketing campaigns across all customer interactions.
- Serving as a subject matter expert on customer strategy across various projects and initiatives, offering guidance and support to internal teams as necessary.
- Participating in our rapid-response crisis communications team on an on-call basis, recognizing the 24/7 nature of our utility services.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in customer communications, with proficiency in customer databases, copywriting, and personalization tools.
- Extensive experience in developing and executing communication briefs and annual plans.
- Strong understanding of the strategic advantages and limitations of various media channels.
- Previous experience in formulating marketing strategies and creating customer messaging frameworks.
- Deep knowledge of segmentation, targeting, and utilizing customer data effectively.
- Exceptional communication and writing skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly. Proficient copywriting and strong time management abilities are essential.
- Understanding of performance metrics at each stage of the marketing funnel and their application to optimize campaign planning.
