Job Title: Children's Nurse/Registered Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Children's Nurse/Registered Nurse to join our Acute Children's Outreach Nursing Service (ACORNS) team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Role

The ACORNS team provides a unique and innovative service, working with infants, children, and young people who are acutely unwell and require ongoing assessment and support in their own homes. As a Children's Nurse/Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based care to patients and their families, using a range of assessment tools and digital programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide structured clinical assessments of individual needs, empowering children, young people, and parents to support their acute care needs.
  • Work autonomously with the child and family in the community setting, accepting referrals and initiating appropriate work.
  • Carry out physical assessments, initiate nursing and emergency interventions, and monitor acute exacerbations of illness.
  • Ensure all clinical practice is based on current local and national guidelines for the assessment and recognition of the sick child.
  • Regularly attend and liaise with acute hospital colleagues to enable timely and safe discharge from hospital and appropriate follow-up in the community setting.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A valid UK NMC registration.
  • Experience working in a paediatric setting.
  • Excellent communication and assessment skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
