About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Anaesthetic ODP/Nurse to join our team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the smooth operation of our theatres.

Key Responsibilities
  • Surgical Support
    • Safely identify, prepare, check and assemble required equipment, in line with manufacturer and Association of Anaesthetists guidelines
    • Ensure that the anaesthetic room (or equivalent) is clean, tidy and welcoming for patients
    • Facilitate the delivery of safe surgery, in line with national pathways such as NatSSIPs2 and GPAS
    • Communicate well with the multidisciplinary team to advocate for patients within the clinical setting, across all three stages of a patient's perioperative journey
    • Ensure the theatre is closed down in a manner that leaves it stocked and ready for the next list/emergency case
    • Develop a wider knowledge base by rotating through all the surgical specialties
    • Work with senior colleagues to collect and disseminate data based on local and national quality indicators
    • Facilitate the continued safe running of the department in the absence of the Floor Coordinator or other senior staff
  • Clinical Practice
    • Maintain competence, via continuing professional development and rotation, to work in all required clinical areas
    • Promote a safe working environment by adhering to relevant local and national Infection Prevention and Control, Health and Safety, Information Governance and Safeguarding policies and procedures
    • Ensure clinical practice is current and evidence-based
    • Maintain competence in all required equipment, ensuring each piece is properly used and maintained in line with Trust policy
    • Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation is done so in line with local and national policies and procedures
  • Professional Development
    • Act in accordance with the Trust PROUD values and reflect on times when adherence to these has been suboptimal
    • Act in accordance with all HCPC/NMC standards
    • Maintain the ability to escalate concerns effectively and appropriately, as required

    Requirements
    • Education and Qualifications
      • Current HCPC/NMC registration
      • ODPs - Completion of HCPC-approved ODP programme
      • Nurses - Recognised anaesthetic course
    • Desirable
      • Completed a mentorship course
      • Has/will complete an anaesthetic course or ODP programme
      • Has described enthusiasm or a proactive nature towards learning
      • Enthusiastic and proactive about own professional development
    • Skills and Knowledge
      • Ability to work/experience working full shift pattern, including nights and weekends
      • Good computer literacy skills
      • Excellent communication skills and a good range of non-technical skills
      • Good understanding of human factors and ergonomics
      • Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work independently
      • Ability to negotiate and problem solve in a dynamic setting
      • Ability to work well independently and within a multi-cultural multi-disciplinary team
    • Experience
      • Relevant clinical experience working within an NHS theatre setting
      • Shows ability to undertake reflective practice
      • Shows ability to identify, and manage, stress within themselves
      • Experienced in reflective practice
    • Desirable
      • Experience working within obstetric theatre settings
      • Experience working within paediatric theatre settings
      • Experience working within adult theatre settings
      • Experience supervising junior staff and/or students
