Senior Therapy Support Specialist – Patient Mobilisation
2 months ago
Position Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to present an exceptional opportunity to join our dedicated team.
Role Responsibilities
We are seeking a Senior Therapy Support Specialist to become an integral part of our expansive Therapy services division at University Hospital Southampton. This position involves working on acute care units, collaborating closely with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and other therapy support personnel. The successful candidate will manage a personal caseload of patients, facilitating efficient and timely discharges.
This role is specifically tailored to assist patients who are transitioning from intensive care or high-dependency wards, where they have received extensive supervision, to the acute care environment. These individuals require both physical and emotional support as they adapt to a new routine, often after prolonged periods in a different care setting. The position is immensely fulfilling, as it involves guiding patients back to their daily lives, which includes manual handling, patient mobilization, assisting with transfers, personal care, restoring functionality, promoting emotional health, and assessing and fitting necessary equipment for both ward care and home discharge.
You will be part of a collaborative therapy services team, delivering patient care across a 7-day service, including weekends and public holidays, on a scheduled basis.
This position is part of the broader Therapy services division. You will have numerous opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge through our in-house training programs.
About Our Organization
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we provide extensive learning and development opportunities to help you achieve your career aspirations.
All non-clinical roles may involve a combination of on-site and remote work. Specific details and flexible working arrangements can be discussed during the interview process. Employees at UHS have access to a variety of NHS discounts, a minimum of 35 days of paid leave (pro rata), and a comprehensive pension scheme.
Southampton is a desirable location for both living and working, situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct rail connections to major cities. The New Forest National Park and the stunning beaches of the Jurassic coast are also nearby. The city boasts living costs approximately 20% lower than those in London, along with numerous schools rated outstanding by educational authorities.
For this role, we are open to discussing flexible working hours. Please feel free to discuss your needs during the interview, and we will explore what is feasible for the role and service.
Key Responsibilities
We are looking for individuals who thrive in dynamic clinical settings and are passionate about helping patients regain or maintain their independence through therapeutic interventions. UHS operates in a fast-paced environment where effective communication, prioritization, and delegation skills are essential for ensuring safe and timely discharges.
Your Contributions
- Participate in the assessment and treatment of patients transitioning from intensive care or high-dependency wards.
- Provide emotional and physical support to patients as they adjust to their daily routines following their time in intensive care or high-dependency settings.
- Engage in training and development opportunities for yourself and others, including students.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are seeking someone who:
- Exhibits care and compassion.
- Is comfortable working in intensive care or high-dependency environments.
- Can maintain composure and make sound decisions under pressure in a fast-paced setting.
- Is capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Experience as an Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy technician/assistant, or equivalent experience in a healthcare, educational, or customer-facing role.
- Experience assisting individuals with personal care needs, including washing, dressing, and toileting.
- Willingness to participate in a 7-day working schedule and work on public holidays as required.
- Proficient in IT skills, particularly with Microsoft systems.
Please ensure you meet all essential criteria and have reviewed the job description and person specification before applying. We encourage all potential candidates to reach out with any questions regarding this role.
As there are various clinical areas for these positions, you will be assigned to a team following successful interviews. Please note that all roles involve working with adults, not children.
