Job Title: Advanced Pharmacist - CAR-T Therapy Specialist

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced pharmacist to join our oncology pharmacy team as a CAR-T Therapy Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to the development of our CAR-T service.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist medicines management services and pharmaceutical advice to the Southampton Haematology and Oncology Centre. This will include attending consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings, developing and implementing guidelines and procedures, and playing an active role in the monitoring and evaluation of drug expenditure trends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Attending consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings to guide clinical staff in the provision of appropriate pharmaceutical treatment for individual patients.
  • Developing and implementing guidelines, policies and procedures for the use of medicines to ensure evidence-based medicine is followed and safe practices encouraged.
  • Playing an active role in the monitoring and evaluation of drug expenditure trends, identifying cost improvement initiatives and ensuring all necessary funding is secured.
  • Implementing, auditing and providing evidence that best practice is undertaken on the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit to fulfil the European requirements for accreditation and peer review (JACIE).
  • Working closely with aseptic technical staff, undertaking clinical checks on chemotherapy regimens and prescriptions and providing cover for product checking in the Aseptic Units when necessary.
Requirements:
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
  • Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 1 competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy services acquired while working within a suitable specialty.
  • Development and implementation of guidelines and procedures.
  • MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
  • Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 2 or Mastery competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients.
  • Training in medicines information.
  • Project Management training or qualification.
