Deputy Grounds and Gardens Manager

A prestigious heritage site in central London is seeking a highly skilled Deputy Grounds and Gardens Manager to join its team. This esteemed institution is renowned for its historical significance and attracts a large number of visitors and residents. The successful candidate will be responsible for deputizing for the Head of Grounds and Gardens and assisting in the smooth operation of the grounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the maintenance of horticultural machinery and equipment
  • Supervise and monitor the work of Grounds and Gardens staff
  • Conduct risk assessments and health and safety checks
  • Use and apply chemicals, including pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides
  • Perform tasks such as mowing, pruning, planting, weeding, and leaf clearing
  • Liaise with external agencies, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Glasshouse, including propagation and production
  • Manage floristry requirements
  • Monitor and manage stock levels of PPE and sundry horticultural items
Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of garden machinery and its maintenance
  • Experience working in a heritage landscape or similar environment
  • Basic plant knowledge
  • Relevant experience in horticultural and turf culture practices
  • Horticultural/Landscape management qualification Level II or equivalent
  • Safe use of ride-on mower, compact tractor, and chemical spraying certificates
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Good supervisory skills
Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will work 41 hours per week, including paid breaks, Monday to Friday. The role is based in central London and offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.
