Job Summary:

Hire Ground is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Grounds and Gardens Manager to join its team. As a key member of the Heritage Site team, you will be responsible for assisting the Head of Grounds and Gardens in the smooth operation of the grounds and gardens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the maintenance of horticultural machinery and equipment, including ride-on mowers, tractors, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers.
  • Conduct regular health and safety checks, risk assessments, and maintenance records.
  • Supervise and monitor the work of Grounds and Gardens staff, ensuring timely completion of tasks and adherence to company policies.
  • Assist in the management of the glasshouse, including propagation, production, and floristry requirements.
  • Liaise with external agencies, contractors, and stakeholders, including the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
  • Manage stock levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) and sundry horticultural items.
  • Deputize for the Head of Grounds and Gardens at Heritage meetings and other events as required.
  • Assist in the management of apprentice and volunteer programs.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in horticultural and turf culture practices, with a solid knowledge of garden machinery and maintenance.
  • Experience working in a Heritage Landscape or similar environment.
  • Basic plant knowledge and relevant experience in horticultural and landscape management practices.
  • A horticultural or landscape management qualification at Level II or equivalent.
  • Safe use of ride-on mower, compact tractor, and chemical spraying certificates (PA1/6A).
  • Good presentation, communication, and supervisory skills.
  • Horticultural passion and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time and permanent position.
  • Working 41 hours per week, including paid breaks.
  • Central London location.
