Working as a Custody Transport Officer in the Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS) provides an opportunity to be part of a meaningful mission, contributing to a supportive work environment where your efforts are appreciated, and you can positively impact lives every day.

  • Competitive salary of £28,715 (40 hours per week). Salary during training is £25,716 (35 hours per week)
  • We recognize your contributions and growth, offering annual salary increments based on your performance (year 2 - £29,413; year 3 - £30,080; year 4 - £30,771).
  • Additional earnings through a driving allowance of £600 per year (subject to terms & conditions)
  • Transparency in earnings; factoring in base salary, driving allowance, and average overtime, you can expect a first-year income of approximately £34,315.

We operate 24/6, covering various early and late shifts (minimum of 40 hours per week).

Flexibility is essential, as the nature of the role requires different working arrangements and additional hours.

While your finishing times may vary, we provide a rota system (12 weeks in advance) that allows for meaningful time off to enjoy your personal interests.


About the Role:


As a Custody Transport Officer, you will be part of a team responsible for the safe and secure transportation of Children and Young People to court.

Your duties will include collecting individuals from Youth Offender Institutions or police stations and ensuring their safety and well-being during transit.


In court, you will oversee their care throughout the day until they are returned to custody or released.

Responsibilities include searching property and individuals, ensuring emotional and physical well-being, preventing escape or self-harm, providing food and drink, and completing necessary paperwork.

Qualifications:

Our current Custody Transport Officers come from diverse backgrounds; prior experience is not essential, but a commitment to making a difference is crucial. Training will be provided during a 5 1/2-week course.

You must hold a valid driver's license and be reasonably fit, with strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively manage various situations.

This role is ideal for those passionate about working with Children and Young People.

Assessment Process:


Our assessment includes an online evaluation, a briefing call to assess eligibility, a competency-based virtual interview, and a short role-play and written exercise.


Additional Information:


All roles are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and employment offers are subject to Ministry of Justice Enhanced Level 2 checks and satisfactory references.
