Our Commitment to Racial Equity
Children from Black, Asian, and other minority communities face significant overrepresentation at various stages of the youth justice system. The statistics reveal that Black youth are disproportionately affected, being four times more likely to encounter arrest compared to their White counterparts. Furthermore, a substantial portion of the youth in custody comes from these minority backgrounds, highlighting a critical issue within the criminal justice framework and our broader society.
The mission of the Youth Endowment Fund is to avert the involvement of children and young individuals in violence. Given the evident disparities, it is imperative that we confront the influence of racism on the experiences of young people within the realms of youth justice, education, employment opportunities, and mental health services. Without addressing these challenges, our efforts to create meaningful change will be hindered.
As both an employer and a What Works Centre, we are dedicated to ensuring that our decision-making processes take into account the implications for children from Black, Asian, and other minority backgrounds.
