Company Overview:

Join a leading tier 1 contractor specializing in water frameworks across the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Estimator to contribute to significant projects within the AMP 7 & 8 programs.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Estimating: Collaborate with the project team to lead the preparation of mechanical estimates.
  • Scope Development: Create comprehensive scopes based on drawings, specifications, and Project Control Documents (PCD).
  • Error Management: Identify and rectify any discrepancies or omissions in the scope as outlined in the PCD.
  • Material Procurement: Generate abstracts of material and subcontract requirements for sourcing and pricing.
  • Quotation Evaluation: Perform technical and commercial assessments of material and subcontractor quotations to ensure thorough coverage of the scope.
  • Analytical Estimation: Formulate detailed analytical estimates, particularly for Mechanical and ideally Electrical packages.
  • Risk Assessment: Assist in identifying and pricing risks throughout the bidding process.
  • Site Inspections: Participate in site visits as necessary during the tender phase.
  • Tender Documentation: Aid in the preparation of the M&E "Tender Book" to compile and present the mechanical estimate.
  • Top-Down Estimation: Develop top-down estimates utilizing agreed schedules of rates and cost curves for benchmarking during the review phase.

Candidate Profile:
  • Education: Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Chartered status preferred).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator with a major mechanical/electrical contractor in the water sector.
  • Project Background: Proven experience in pricing medium to large-scale mechanical and ideally electrical engineering projects, with essential prior experience in wastewater/sewerage treatment and process engineering.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with the Civil Engineering Method of Measurement and a strong technical grasp of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication abilities and a proactive, positive attitude.
  • Commercial Insight: Strong commercial awareness and innovative thinking with knowledge of various Forms of Contract.
  • Software Familiarity: Experience with the CCS 'Candy' Estimating system is a plus (training will be provided).
  • Additional Requirements: Full driving license, customer-focused, environmentally conscious, team-oriented, and accountable.
