Position: Engineering Manager – Materials Technology (Metallurgy)

Compensation: Competitive

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a highly specialized team comprising metallurgists, non-metallic materials experts, and welding engineers.
  • Ensure that technical mentoring within the department meets established standards.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including defense contractors, departmental leaders, and governmental agencies.
  • Contribute to the Materials, Corrosion, and Welding authorities.
  • Engage in the peer review process for work produced by the department.

Required Qualifications:

  • A degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Welding.
  • Experience in research and development projects or project management.
  • Strong understanding of UKAS laboratory environments.
  • Chartered status or evidence of working towards it.

About the Materials Team:

The Materials Technology Centre consists of highly specialized teams of qualified metallurgists, welding engineers, and non-metallic material specialists. They integrate theoretical knowledge and practical applications of materials science to establish material strategies and policies across a diverse range of materials and production processes. This includes projects related to submarines and adjacent business areas. The team actively sponsors research initiatives to remain at the forefront of materials science.
