Key Responsibilities:

You will oversee a highly specialized team comprising metallurgists, non-metallic materials experts, and welding engineers. Your role will include:

  • Ensuring that technical mentoring within the department meets established standards.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including defense contractors and departmental managers.
  • Managing the Materials, Corrosion, and Welding authorities.
  • Contributing to the development of Defence Standards.
  • Facilitating peer reviews of departmental outputs.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Applicants should possess:

  • A degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Welding.
  • Experience in research and development projects or project management.
  • A solid understanding of UKAS laboratory environments.
  • Chartership or evidence of working towards it.

About the Materials Team:

The Materials Technology Centre consists of highly skilled teams of metallurgists, welding engineers, and non-metallic materials specialists. This team combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications of materials science to establish material strategies and policies across a diverse range of materials and production processes.


The centre is engaged in research activities to ensure we remain at the forefront of materials science.
