Position Title:
Engineering Manager - Materials Technology (Metallurgy)

Location:
Barrow-In-Furness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee a highly specialized team consisting of metallurgists, non-metallic materials experts, and welding engineers.
  • Ensure that technical mentoring within the department meets established standards.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including defense contractors and departmental leaders.
  • Manage the Materials, Corrosion, and Welding authorities.
  • Contribute to the development of Defence Standards.
  • Facilitate peer reviews of departmental outputs.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • A degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Welding.
  • Experience in research and development projects or project management.
  • Familiarity with UKAS laboratory environments.
  • Chartered status or evidence of working towards it.

About the Materials Team:

The Materials Technology Centre comprises a group of highly skilled professionals, including qualified metallurgists, welding engineers, and specialists in non-metallic materials.


This team integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications of materials science to establish material strategies and policies across various materials and production processes.


The centre is dedicated to conducting and sponsoring research initiatives to remain at the forefront of materials science.
