Your Opportunity

We are thrilled to announce an opening within our Research, Technology, and Innovation division. In response to significant growth, we seek to enhance our team with a Research Engineer. This role involves engaging in applied research to explore and develop cutting-edge technologies and concepts across multiple Thales application domains. Key activities will encompass:

  • Conducting fundamental feasibility assessments, comprehensive surveys, and modeling/simulation tasks.
  • Creating proof of concept prototypes utilizing suitable software and hardware solutions.
  • Collaborating within a research team to innovate and investigate new concepts and technologies, demonstrating their relevance to Thales operations.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Research Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Executing feasibility studies, conducting state-of-the-art surveys, and performing modeling/simulation.
  • Developing proof of concept prototypes with appropriate software and hardware implementations.
  • Collaborating with fellow researchers while also demonstrating self-motivation and adaptability to new research areas.
  • Being an effective team member, motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Taking initiative in the efficient execution of projects and being accountable for your work.
  • Innovating in solution development to meet both team and individual goals.
  • Maintaining and enhancing professional and technical skills, with a willingness to learn new competencies.
  • Providing accurate work estimates and delivering projects within budget constraints.
  • Adhering to established processes and procedures as outlined in the Project Management Plan.
  • Presenting technical information during reviews.
  • Engaging in technical discussions with customer representatives to facilitate technology transfer.

About You:

The ideal candidate will possess experience in several of the following areas:

  • Mathematical modeling and simulation techniques.
  • Numerical data analysis and data science methodologies.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Mathematica, or similar computer algebra systems.
  • Signal and image processing methodologies.
  • Algorithm development for sensor systems.
  • Experience with various sensor technologies (e.g., optical, IR, video, radar, sonar).
  • Software development skills (e.g., C++, Python).
  • Embedded systems programming.
  • Problem-solving using DSPs and/or FPGAs.
  • Knowledge of radio or analog electronics.

Experience:

The successful candidate will typically have 5-8 years of relevant experience in a research or advanced development role, with a solid understanding of Thales's business structure and processes.

Qualifications:

Due to the advanced nature of our work, candidates should hold an honors degree (minimum 2.1), a master's degree, or a PhD in disciplines such as:

  • Communications Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Cybernetics, Information Technology
  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • Electronics
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Software Engineering
  • Telecommunications

Security Clearance:

This position requires SC Clearance. While current clearance is advantageous, it is essential for the successful candidate to obtain and maintain SC Clearance.
