About the Role

We are thrilled to announce an opening within our Research, Technology, and Innovation division. As we experience significant growth, we seek to welcome a Research Engineer to our team. In this role, you will engage in applied research to explore and develop innovative technologies and concepts across a broad spectrum of Thales's applications. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting fundamental feasibility studies, comprehensive surveys, and modeling/simulation.
  • Creating proof of concept demonstrators utilizing suitable software and hardware solutions.
  • Collaborating within a research team to invent and investigate new concepts and technologies, demonstrating their relevance to Thales's operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform feasibility studies, state-of-the-art assessments, and simulations.
  • Develop proof of concept demonstrators using appropriate software and hardware.
  • Collaborate with fellow researchers while also being self-driven and adaptable to new research domains.
  • Contribute positively as a team member, demonstrating motivation and enthusiasm.
  • Exhibit initiative in executing projects efficiently and take ownership of your work.
  • Innovate in solution development to meet both team and individual objectives.
  • Maintain and enhance professional and technical skills, demonstrating a willingness to learn.
  • Provide accurate work estimates and deliver within budget constraints.
  • Adhere to processes and procedures outlined in the Project Management Plan.
  • Present technical information during reviews.
  • Engage in technical discussions with customer representatives to facilitate technology transfer.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess experience in several of the following areas:

  • Mathematical modeling and simulation techniques.
  • Data analysis and data science methodologies.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning approaches.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Mathematica, or similar computational tools.
  • Signal and image processing methodologies.
  • Algorithm development for various systems.
  • Experience with sensor systems (e.g., optical, IR, video, radar, sonar).
  • Software development skills (e.g., C++, Python).
  • Embedded systems programming.
  • Problem-solving using DSPs and/or FPGAs.
  • Knowledge of radio or analog electronics.

Experience:

The successful candidate will typically have 5-8 years of relevant experience in a research or advanced development role, along with a solid understanding of Thales's business operations, structure, governance, and processes. Proficiency in standard office software tools, particularly Microsoft applications, is also expected.

Qualifications:

Due to the advanced nature of our work, candidates should typically hold an honors degree (minimum 2.1), a master's degree, or a PhD in relevant fields such as:

Security Clearance:

This position requires SC Clearance. While current clearance is advantageous, it is mandatory for the successful candidate to obtain and maintain SC Clearance.
