About the Role

We are thrilled to announce an opening in our Research, Technology, and Innovation division. Due to significant growth, we are seeking a Research Engineer to join our team. You will operate in an applied research setting to explore and develop innovative technologies and concepts across various Thales application domains. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting fundamental feasibility studies, comprehensive surveys, and modeling/simulation.
  • Creating proof of concept demonstrations utilizing suitable software and hardware implementations.
  • Collaborating within a research team to invent and assess new concepts and technologies, demonstrating their relevance to Thales operations.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Research Engineer, you will:

  • Execute fundamental feasibility studies, comprehensive surveys, and modeling/simulation.
  • Develop proof of concept demonstrations using suitable software and hardware.
  • Collaborate with fellow research staff while also being self-driven to work independently, adapting to new research areas and methodologies.
  • Be an effective team member, motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Exhibit initiative in the efficient execution of projects and take ownership of your work.
  • Innovate in solution development to meet both team and individual objectives.
  • Maintain and enhance professional and technical skills, demonstrating a willingness to learn new competencies.
  • Provide accurate estimates for your work and deliver within budget constraints.
  • Adhere to processes and procedures as outlined in the Project Management Plan.
  • Present technical information during reviews.
  • Engage in technical discussions with customer representatives to facilitate technology transfer.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate should possess experience in some of the following areas:

  • Mathematical modeling and simulation.
  • Numerical data analysis and data science methodologies.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Mathematica, or similar computer algebra systems.
  • Signal and image processing techniques.
  • Algorithm development for sensor systems.
  • Experience with sensor technologies (e.g., optical, IR, video, radar, sonar).
  • Software development skills (e.g., C++, Python).
  • Embedded programming experience.
  • Problem-solving using DSPs and/or FPGAs.
  • Knowledge of radio or analog electronics.

Experience:

The successful candidate will typically have 5-8 years of relevant experience in a research or advanced development environment and possess a solid understanding of Thales's business operations, structure, governance, and processes.

Qualifications:

Due to the advanced nature of our work, the successful candidate will generally hold an honors degree (minimum 2.1), a master's degree, or a PhD in one of the following fields:

Security Clearance:

This position will require SC Clearance. While it is advantageous to currently hold this clearance, if not, the successful applicant must undergo the process to achieve and maintain SC Clearance.
