About the Role

We are thrilled to announce an opening in our Research, Technology, and Innovation division. In response to significant growth, we seek to enhance our team with a Research Engineer. You will engage in applied research to explore and develop new technologies and concepts across various Thales application domains. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting fundamental feasibility studies, state-of-the-art assessments, and modeling/simulation.
  • Creating proof of concept demonstrations utilizing suitable software and hardware solutions.
  • Collaborating within a research team to innovate and explore new concepts and technologies, showcasing their relevance to Thales operations.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Research Engineer, your tasks will encompass:

  • Executing fundamental feasibility studies, state-of-the-art assessments, and modeling/simulation.
  • Developing proof of concept demonstrations using appropriate software and hardware.
  • Collaborating with fellow researchers while also being self-driven to work independently, adapting to new research areas and methodologies.
  • Being an effective team member, demonstrating motivation and enthusiasm.
  • Exhibiting initiative in the efficient execution of projects and taking ownership of your work.
  • Innovating in solution development to meet both team and individual goals.
  • Maintaining and enhancing professional and technical skills, with a willingness to learn new competencies.
  • Providing accurate estimates for your work and delivering within budget constraints.
  • Adhering to processes and procedures as outlined in the Project Management Plan.
  • Presenting technical information during reviews.
  • Engaging in technical discussions with customer representatives to facilitate technology transfer.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess experience in several of the following areas:

  • Mathematical modeling and simulation.
  • Numerical data analysis and data science methodologies.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Mathematica, or similar computer algebra systems.
  • Signal and image processing techniques.
  • Algorithm development for sensor systems.
  • Experience with sensor technologies (e.g., optical, IR, video, radar, sonar).
  • Software development skills (e.g., C++, Python).
  • Embedded programming experience.
  • Problem-solving using DSPs and/or FPGAs.
  • Knowledge of radio or analog electronics.

Experience:

The successful candidate will typically have 5-8 years of relevant experience in a research or advanced development role, with a solid understanding of Thales' business structure and processes.

Qualifications:

Due to the advanced nature of our work, candidates should hold an honors degree (minimum 2.1), a master's degree, or a PhD in relevant fields such as:

  • Cybernetics, Information Technology
  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • Electronics
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Software Engineering
  • Telecommunication

Security Clearance:

This position requires SC Clearance. While it is advantageous to currently hold this clearance, candidates must be prepared to undergo the necessary process to achieve and maintain it.
