Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader

Morson Talent is seeking a skilled Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader to oversee and enhance our dedicated maintenance team.

This position is perfect for a seasoned and proactive Maintenance Leader, Engineering Supervisor, or Maintenance Supervisor.

Working Hours: 7am - 5pm
48 hours/week + overtime

Key Responsibilities

In the role of Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader, you will be tasked with managing the operational section, ensuring optimal performance and quality, maximizing process efficiency, and implementing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for both fixed and mobile equipment.

You will lead a team of engineers while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations across all activities.

Your leadership will foster an inclusive environment where all team members are treated with respect and dignity.

You will take a hands-on approach to all maintenance tasks, including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), risk management, breakdown resolution, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and project engineering initiatives.

As Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader, your duties will encompass (but are not limited to):

  • Monitoring and enhancing process productivity while utilizing resources, products, and equipment cost-effectively. Identifying opportunities for process and quality improvements.
  • Driving the achievement of Overall Operations Effectiveness (OOE) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Communicating performance objectives and KPIs to the team through meetings and briefings.
  • Supervising maintenance operations.
  • Conducting maintenance checks and inspections on plant and vehicles as necessary.
  • Applying fundamental maintenance practices, including checking levels, parts, wear, pressure, and lubricating equipment.
  • Performing and reviewing maintenance inspections and reporting defects.
  • Monitoring and reporting key successes and deficiencies across the site, conducting root cause analysis, and addressing issues as they arise.
  • Managing production costs, including temporary labor and overtime, and reviewing these regularly with management.
  • Upholding Health and Safety regulations and ensuring all Safe Systems of Work are signed off and adhered to, aiming for zero harm for personnel and contractors.
  • Leading, managing, and developing a team to optimize engagement and overall performance.
  • Addressing complex technical issues or failures as they occur.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective service contracts are established and provide best value.
  • Planning, processing, and producing materials to meet specifications while maintaining high-quality standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader role will play a crucial part in the ongoing development and support of the engineering culture, driving continuous improvement strategies.

Candidates should possess experience in a managerial capacity within a similar heavy manufacturing environment, with line management experience being essential.

Suitable applicants will also have:

  • Knowledge of Mechanical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with crushing, screening, and other heavy plant equipment.
  • HNC/HND and/or recognized apprenticeship or BEng is advantageous.
  • Ability to hold team members accountable for task completion and quality.
  • Proven computer skills, particularly with MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication abilities to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A flexible approach to maximize productivity.
  • A positive, proactive attitude in interactions with team members and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement techniques, Lean methodology, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis methods.
