Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader

Morson Talent is seeking a dedicated Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader to oversee and guide our collaborative maintenance team.

This position is well-suited for a seasoned and proactive Maintenance Leader, Engineering Leader, Maintenance Supervisor, or Engineering Supervisor.

Working Hours:

7am to 5pm, 48 hours per week with additional overtime opportunities.


Key Responsibilities

In the role of Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader, you will be tasked with managing the operational section, ensuring performance and quality standards are met, optimizing process efficiency, and implementing a preventive maintenance program for both fixed and mobile equipment.

You will lead a team of engineers while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations across all activities.

It is essential to foster an inclusive environment where all team members are treated with respect and dignity.

Your hands-on approach will encompass all maintenance tasks, including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), defect and risk management, troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and project engineering initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Enhancing productivity by optimizing processes and resource utilization while identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Driving the achievement of Overall Operations Effectiveness (OOE) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Communicating performance objectives and KPIs to the team through regular meetings and briefings.
  • Supervising maintenance operations.
  • Conducting maintenance checks and inspections on plant and vehicles as necessary.
  • Applying fundamental maintenance practices, including checking levels, parts, wear, pressure, and lubrication of equipment.
  • Performing and reviewing maintenance inspections and reporting defects.
  • Monitoring and reporting key performance indicators and issues to management, conducting root cause analysis as needed.
  • Managing production costs, including temporary labor and overtime, and reviewing these with management regularly.
  • Upholding Health and Safety regulations and ensuring compliance with Safe Systems of Work to achieve a target of zero harm.
  • Leading, managing, and developing a team to enhance engagement and performance.
  • Addressing complex technical challenges as they arise.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure service contracts deliver best value.
  • Planning and producing materials to meet specifications while maintaining high-quality standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Asphalt and Quarry Operations Maintenance Leader role will play a crucial role in the ongoing development of our engineering culture, driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Candidates should possess experience in a managerial capacity within a similar heavy manufacturing environment, with line management experience being essential.

Suitable applicants will also have:

  • Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with crushing, screening, and other heavy plant machinery.
  • Relevant qualifications such as HNC/HND or a recognized apprenticeship; a BEng is advantageous.
  • The ability to hold team members accountable for their work and quality of completion.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A flexible approach to maximize productivity.
  • A positive, proactive attitude when interacting with team members and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement techniques, Lean methodology, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis methods.
