Director of Public Affairs for the UK

The Director of Public Affairs for the UK will be instrumental in defining Aon's public policy framework within the region, spearheading critical initiatives that address significant policy challenges impacting our operations. This position will serve as Aon's representative to external entities, ensuring our perspectives are acknowledged and our interests safeguarded. Additionally, the role will involve advising senior leadership on political and legislative changes that may influence our organization. This position is based in our London headquarters.

Daily Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for formulating and executing Aon’s public policy strategy for the UK and EMEA.
  2. Oversee the achievement of Aon UK's public policy objectives and initiatives.
  3. Provide strategic counsel to senior executives regarding political and legislative matters affecting Aon, acting as a trusted advisor to the regional CEO and executive team.
  4. Conduct thorough analyses of governmental policies and legislation, establishing priorities by leveraging insights from lobbyists and consultants.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to respond to governmental consultations and formulate positions that advocate for Aon UK's interests.
  6. Identify and engage with relevant external stakeholders on policy issues, promoting Aon UK's stance when appropriate.
  7. Actively seek opportunities to cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, including government officials and industry peers.
  8. Prepare comprehensive reports and updates for Executive and Senior Management.
  9. Lead interactions with industry associations.
  10. Ensure compliance with company policies, as well as regulatory, professional, and legal standards.

Qualifications for Success

  1. Profound understanding and experience in developing and implementing public policy, with established connections within government.
  2. Experience in the Financial Services sector is preferred, with a background in corporate environments required.
  3. Proven track record of independently crafting and executing a public affairs strategy with a commercial perspective.
  4. Experience collaborating with senior internal stakeholders, including regional Chief Executives or equivalent, and the ability to work collaboratively across the organization.
  5. Exceptional influencing, negotiation, and networking capabilities, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving landscape.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of simplifying complex policy issues into clear messages.
  7. Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and readiness to tackle complex challenges effectively.
  8. Self-driven, organized, pragmatic, and capable of executing tasks autonomously.
  9. A continuous drive and enthusiasm to achieve results.
