Head of Public Affairs for the UK – EU

The Head of Public Affairs for the UK – EU will be instrumental in defining Aon's public policy approach in the region, leading initiatives on significant policy challenges impacting our operations. The individual in this role will act as Aon's representative to external entities, ensuring our perspectives are acknowledged and our interests safeguarded. Additionally, this position will offer strategic counsel to senior management regarding political and legislative changes that may influence our business. This role is based at our London headquarters.

Daily Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for formulating and executing Aon UK/EMEA public policy strategy
  2. Tasked with achieving Aon UK's public policy objectives and initiatives
  3. Provide strategic advice to senior management on political and legislative matters affecting Aon, serving as a trusted advisor to the regional CEO and executive team
  4. Conduct analysis of governmental policies and legislation, establishing priorities with the assistance of lobbyists and consultants
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to respond to government inquiries and develop positions that align with Aon UK's interests
  6. Identify and engage relevant external stakeholders on policy issues, advocating for Aon UK's stance when necessary
  7. Actively seek opportunities to foster relationships with external stakeholders, including government officials and industry peers
  8. Prepare concise reports and updates for Executive and Senior Management
  9. Lead interactions with industry associations
  10. Ensure compliance with company policies, as well as regulatory, professional, and legal standards

Qualifications for Success

  1. In-depth knowledge and experience in public policy development and execution, with established connections within government
  2. Familiarity with the Financial Services sector is preferred, along with requisite corporate experience
  3. Proven track record of independently crafting and implementing a public affairs strategy with a business-oriented perspective
  4. Experience collaborating with senior internal stakeholders, including regional Chief Executives or equivalent, and ability to work effectively across the organization
  5. Exceptional influencing, negotiation, and networking abilities, capable of thriving in a dynamic environment
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills, adept at simplifying complex policy issues into clear messages
  7. Flexible in adapting to shifting priorities and capable of addressing complex challenges promptly
  8. Self-driven, organized, pragmatic, and capable of working autonomously
  9. Persistent drive and energy to achieve results
