Position Overview: Director of Public Affairs UK – EU

The Director of Public Affairs UK – EU is crucial in defining Aon's public policy framework within the region. This role encompasses leading significant initiatives that address major policy challenges impacting our operations. The individual will act as Aon's representative to external stakeholders, ensuring our perspectives are acknowledged and our interests are safeguarded. Additionally, the role involves advising senior management on political and legislative trends that influence our business landscape. This position is based at our London headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for crafting and executing Aon’s public policy strategy for the UK and EMEA.
  2. Oversee the achievement of Aon UK's public policy objectives and initiatives.
  3. Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership regarding political and legislative changes affecting Aon, serving as a trusted advisor to the regional CEO and executive team.
  4. Conduct thorough analyses of governmental policies and legislation, establishing priorities with the support of lobbyists and consultants.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to respond to government inquiries and formulate positions that align with Aon UK's interests.
  6. Identify and engage with relevant external stakeholders on policy matters, advocating for Aon UK's stance when appropriate.
  7. Actively seek opportunities to cultivate relationships with external entities, including government officials and industry peers.
  8. Prepare comprehensive reports and updates for Executive and Senior Management.
  9. Lead interactions with industry associations.
  10. Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory standards, and legal obligations.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. In-depth knowledge and experience in developing and implementing public policy, with established connections within government.
  2. Familiarity with the Financial Services sector is preferred, along with requisite corporate experience.
  3. Proven track record of independently formulating and executing a public affairs strategy with a business-oriented approach.
  4. Experience collaborating with senior internal stakeholders, including regional Chief Executives or equivalent, and fostering collegial relationships across the organization.
  5. Exceptional influencing, negotiation, and networking abilities, capable of thriving in a dynamic environment.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills, adept at simplifying complex policy issues into clear messages.
  7. Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and the capability to quickly engage with intricate matters.
  8. Self-driven, organized, pragmatic, and capable of working autonomously.
  9. A persistent drive and energy to achieve objectives.
