Director of Public Affairs for the UK – EU

The Director of Public Affairs for the UK – EU will be instrumental in defining Aon's public policy approach within the region, addressing significant policy challenges that impact our operations. This position involves representing Aon to various external entities, ensuring our perspectives are acknowledged and our interests are safeguarded. The role will also involve advising senior management on political and legislative matters that influence our business landscape. This position is based at our London headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for developing and executing Aon’s public policy strategy for the UK and EMEA.
  2. Oversee the achievement of Aon UK's public policy objectives and initiatives.
  3. Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on political and legislative changes impacting Aon, acting as a trusted advisor to the regional executive team.
  4. Conduct thorough analyses of government policies and legislation, prioritizing issues with the assistance of lobbyists and consultants.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to respond to government inquiries and formulate positions that align with Aon UK's interests.
  6. Identify and engage with relevant external stakeholders on policy matters, advocating for Aon UK's stance when necessary.
  7. Actively seek opportunities to cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, including government officials and industry peers.
  8. Prepare concise reports and updates for Executive and Senior Management.
  9. Lead interactions with industry associations.
  10. Ensure compliance with company policies, as well as regulatory and legal standards.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  1. In-depth knowledge and experience in public policy development and execution, with established connections within government.
  2. Experience in the Financial Services sector is preferred, with a background in corporate environments.
  3. Proven track record of independently crafting and implementing a public affairs strategy with a commercial focus.
  4. Experience working with senior internal stakeholders, including regional Chief Executives or equivalent, and the ability to collaborate effectively across the organization.
  5. Strong skills in influencing, negotiation, and networking, with the capability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to simplify complex policy issues.
  7. Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities, with a proactive approach to complex challenges.
  8. Self-driven, organized, and pragmatic, capable of working independently.
  9. A continuous drive to achieve results and make an impact.
