Chelmsford, Essex, United Kingdom Essex Police Full time

Location: Chelmsford

Salary: £23,121.00 (pro-rata for part-time roles)

Employment Type: Full Time

Contract Duration: Permanent

Shift Schedule: 24/7 rotation

Weekend/Evening Availability: Required

An exciting opportunity exists for a dedicated individual to take on the role of PNC Operations Specialist within the 24/7 PNC Bureau at Essex Police Headquarters.

In this role, you will engage in a rotational shift schedule that covers 24/7 operations throughout the year, as part of a skilled and dynamic team. Your primary responsibility will be to support operational law enforcement by managing and responding to inquiries and communications related to the Police National Computer, Athena, and other police record systems.

The PNC Bureau is crucial in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of data within the Police National Computer (PNC) and delivering a prompt and effective inquiry and update service concerning the system. This includes the management of data storage and the dissemination of information held on PNC and related systems, all conducted in accordance with legislative mandates and organizational policies to facilitate the effective execution of operational policing goals for Essex Police.

A new and evolving aspect of this position is the integration of the Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS), which is progressively being implemented across various forces nationwide. As a new member of the team, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful incorporation of this new system into our operational practices, thereby supporting the overall objectives of the force.

This role presents challenges that require the successful candidate to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a larger team while consistently maintaining high levels of attention to detail.

In this position, you will need to demonstrate your ability to interpret and analyze data while investigating and resolving discrepancies. Therefore, strong computer, literacy, and numeracy skills, along with experience in database management, are essential.

This role includes a 20% shift allowance, in addition to enhancements for weekend work.

At the time of shortlisting, we will be looking for evidence of:

Prior experience in information gathering and your capability to analytically review materials to make informed decisions. Your ability to approach challenges with an open mind and innovative solutions. Your proficiency with office technology, including Microsoft products such as Word and Excel.

What we offer in return:

23 days of annual leave per year (pro-rata for part-time roles), increasing with service. Continuous training, development, and promotion opportunities, along with the chance to acquire additional skills within the command, enabling you to provide essential support in a fast-paced environment when necessary. Enrollment in the Local Government Pension Scheme. Free parking, subject to availability. Discounts at various shops and restaurants. Discounted excursions through our Sports and Social Association. Support and guidance from our staff associations. Access to Health Services through our in-house Occupational Health and Welfare team.

Essex Police provides incremental salary increases within this band, allowing the salary for this position to rise to a maximum of £27,351.00.

Your application will be evaluated based on the content provided in the 'reason for application' section, which is limited to 9000 characters. In your response, please refer to the criteria outlined in this job advertisement and include any relevant experience, skills, and abilities that make you suitable for the role. Ensure you provide comprehensive details, as insufficient information may result in not meeting the shortlisting criteria.

All positions require a level of vetting and security clearance. During the recruitment process, you will be required to complete vetting information forms.

Essex Police welcomes applications from all individuals regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, sex, or employment status.

Where appropriate, we will make reasonable adjustments to the selection process, working arrangements, and/or the working environment.

This position is open to:

British Citizens Members of a European Economic Area (EEA) state who hold settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme. Commonwealth citizens or foreign nationals (who are not British citizens or EEA state members) with indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom free from restrictions.
