Salary (£): Up to £, IT Engineer

Severn Trent is a key provider of essential national services to millions of customers across our region, operating around the clock, every day of the year.

Our Technology division plays a crucial role in ensuring seamless operations, as we deliver and uphold secure, stable, and highly available IT and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) services across all sectors of our organization. Our team is composed of exceptionally skilled and innovative professionals who are continuously exploring exciting new methods to enhance the experience of our business colleagues and, ultimately, our customers.

We embrace individuals from diverse backgrounds and celebrate uniqueness, recognizing that varied perspectives and experiences enrich our learning and enable us to better serve our customers and the communities we support.

POSITION OVERVIEW

At Severn Trent, we are seeking a proficient and seasoned IT Engineer to become a part of our End User Computing (EUC) Team, aimed at enhancing the skills and technologies within our IT Operations function.

As an EUC Engineer, you will oversee our intricate hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure. This position necessitates a robust technical background in Microsoft technologies, a comprehensive understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, and a solid grounding in ITIL best practices.

You will help establish standards for the Severn Trent customer experience and actively contribute to technical documentation, strategy, and product selection, playing a vital role in the delivery process, support, and maintenance, while also making recommendations for continuous improvement within the organization. Your responsibilities will include managing day-to-day EUC operations, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) across Technology and the broader organization.

In this role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders and provide technological expertise, while identifying opportunities for process enhancements by thoroughly understanding our business drivers and the IT systems that support them.

Key responsibilities and technologies involved in this role include:

Supporting, maintaining, and enhancing implementations of a hybrid environment utilizing Microsoft and Microsoft Modern Workplace solutions, building on Azure Active Directory (AAD) and Endpoint Manager platforms. Installing, maintaining, and optimizing our Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), leveraging Citrix DaaS in Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Windows. Enhancing our utilization of Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot to improve centralized management of devices (laptops, tablets, phones) within our organization, focusing on streamlining device provisioning, management, and application delivery for efficiency, compliance, and user-friendliness. Implementing solutions that promote automation and scripting to minimize time spent by support teams, thereby improving monitoring and response times. Utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and technologies such as PowerShell, Terraform, Azure Resource Manager (ARM), and playbooks like Ansible. Assisting in resolving technical issues and risks to customer systems, providing appropriate technical input into incidents, requests, changes, root cause analyses, and risk mitigation, while enhancing documentation and knowledge base resources for effective issue resolution and prevention of recurrence. Managing and communicating stakeholder expectations and customer service requirements. Participation in an on-call rota is also expected.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have experience working within a Technology department, alongside a background in a similar role providing administration and analytical support.

The primary focus of the EUC Engineer is the support and delivery of End User Compute infrastructure, devices, and associated server technologies. This role is diverse and challenging, requiring significant interpersonal and technical skills, as well as the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, secure environment.

Preferred qualifications include certifications in Microsoft Azure, Citrix, or ITIL, experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python), and a working knowledge of network infrastructure and security.

You should possess strong technical expertise in Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, Azure, Intune, and Autopilot, along with proven experience in managing hybrid cloud environments.

Your understanding of Citrix DaaS and its components should be comprehensive, and you will need a solid grasp of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools (ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform).

Excellent communication, time management, prioritization, and organizational skills, along with exceptional attention to detail, are essential for this role.
