About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Energy Transition Analyst to join our team at National Grid. As a key member of our Gas and Whole Energy Network Development (GWEND) team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our energy system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on the delivery of cohesive intelligence and analysis for assigned sectors, clusters, or energy vectors, including agreeing the overall scope of the analysis with senior management, defining research and intelligence gathering requirements, and developing simulations and models required.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of energy systems relevant to assigned sectors, energy vectors, or clusters, assessing efficiency, reliability, and performance, and identifying needs, inputs, and outputs.
  • Adhere to relevant analytical and research standards, including project management guidelines, reporting requirements, and budget tracking, to ensure analysis and studies are undertaken in a consistent and robust approach.
  • Support the Whole Energy Network Development Manager in conducting regular market scanning exercises across the UK, Europe, and the world, to stay informed of developments impacting future energy studies.
  • Support the Whole Energy Network Development Manager in developing post-study publications and ongoing insight papers relevant to assigned energy sectors, clusters, or vectors, to support key participants in the UK energy markets and position National Grid as a thought leader in the energy area.
  • Analyse and consider multiple options to resolve issues, weigh costs and benefits, and make recommendations for actions.
About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • Understanding of the energy sector, including knowledge of the structure, regulatory environment, and short- and long-term issues affecting the industry on the route to net zero.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience working with data in different formats, and experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) may be an advantage.
  • Ability to translate data and analysis into value-adding insights, commentary, and recommendations that inform decision making.
  • Understanding of the challenges of network planning and design, including the ability to think holistically across energy vectors to bring together a whole energy systems approach.
  • Deep understanding of one or more elements of the whole energy system from a technical perspective, including vertical understanding or cross-cutting, horizontal understanding.
