We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a South West Energy Strategic Planning Lead. As a key member of our regional energy planning team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategic plans to support the transition to a low-carbon energy system in the South West region.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and lead on regional energy strategic planning work packages, ensuring alignment with national energy policy and regional priorities.
- Represent the National Energy System Operator's regional energy planning function at strategic level, deputizing for the regional manager as needed.
- Engage with key regional stakeholders, including local government, gas and electricity networks, and other local actors, to understand their views and requirements and ensure that regional energy planning delivers value.
- Create new ways to analyze and present problems and potential solutions, building on the work and experience of others to quickly develop sufficient understanding of unfamiliar topics.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities and energy distribution companies, to ensure effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to the development of the National Energy System Operator's regional energy planning capability, including training and development of team members.
- Experience within the energy sector, including technical energy knowledge and knowledge of energy project development lifecycles.
- Advanced experience in at least one of the energy vectors, including gas and/or electricity networks, heat decarbonization, hydrogen, transport decarbonization, etc.
- Experience of working with or within Local Authorities and/or energy distribution companies, ideally relevant to the region you seek to work within.
- Knowledge and experience of strategic critical thinking, with ability to consider strategic frameworks and concepts, and how changes to these will drive regional energy planning design and implementation.
- Project management, coordination, and planning skills to ensure that deadlines are met, governance is adhered to, stakeholders are effectively engaged, and high-quality process and outputs are achieved.
- A competitive salary between £52,000 - £63,000 per annum, dependent on experience and capability.
