We seek a dedicated and passionate individual to step into the position of Transplant Nurse. Our renal services represent the largest center in the Northwest, functioning as a tertiary facility that caters to a wide-ranging geographical area, featuring a substantial transplant program that is unique to our organization.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring that both the transplant nursing team and administrative support staff are effectively resourced, nurtured, and developed to provide exceptional care with empathy, aligning with the Trust's core values and the Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework. You will lead and mentor the transplant team, serving as a visible and influential role model, while also leveraging research and development opportunities to enhance clinical supervision and guidance for staff and students, assisting them in achieving their maximum potential.

This position offers a varied caseload that will allow you to consolidate your existing expertise while expanding your skill set in the nursing management of patients with kidney disease. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure that high-quality care and effective service delivery are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Our regional renal service caters to a population of 1.6 million, managing over 1300 dialysis and transplant patients across a broad geographical area, including multiple trusts and satellite dialysis units.

  • Function as an autonomous Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Provide expert consultation related to specific medical conditions or treatment pathways.
  • Focus on enhancing patient care and service innovation.
  • Conduct holistic assessments of patients, planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based care.
  • Offer specialized guidance to patients' families, caregivers, and the broader multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to workforce development through the delivery of education and training.
  • Lead service advancements within the team.
  • Engage in research activities and clinical audits within your specialty area.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesive patient management.
  • Act as a key worker for designated patients throughout their care pathway.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential Criteria

  • Valid NMC Registration.
  • Mentorship qualification.
  • Post-registration qualifications relevant to the role.
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing.

Desirable Criteria

  • Level 3 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a leadership and development program equivalent to the Internal Band 6 Leadership and Development program.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Competence in performing clinical duties appropriate to the role.
  • Extensive experience in renal nursing.
  • Ability to implement changes within nursing practice.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and their relevance to practice.
  • Familiarity with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Awareness of ethical issues.
  • Evidence of clinical proficiency in the specialty area, such as surgery.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in managing a clinical area.
  • Knowledge of the PDPR Process.
  • Evidence of working at Band 6.
  • Experience in budget management.
