Tree Management Specialist

Essex County Council (ECC) is a diverse consultancy offering planning and environmental services aimed at supporting sustainable development for the Council, local authorities, and other public entities.

We are in search of a Tree Management Specialist who possesses a Level 6 qualification or equivalent, or is willing to pursue this qualification. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of various tree species and arboricultural principles, along with practical experience in applying this knowledge within the framework of legislation, policy, and best practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective client interactions.

Your role will involve delivering a comprehensive range of professional, client-oriented arboricultural services, which include:

  • Conducting tree inventories
  • Performing tree safety assessments
  • Executing pest and disease evaluations
  • Carrying out veteran tree assessments
  • Implementing BS5837 compliance
  • Overseeing tree planting and management
  • Engaging in development management

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Effectively managing a diverse range of arboricultural services, including inquiries related to trees and vegetation impacting public highways.
  • Specifying tree management tasks and overseeing contractors.
  • Conducting and managing arboricultural assessments and surveys, such as BS5837, tree inventories, and pest and disease evaluations.
  • Providing expert advice on tree management and planting projects of varying scales.
  • Completing specialized tasks as part of multi-disciplinary projects.

Additionally, you will:

  • Collect, analyze, and present data and evidence to recognized standards.
  • Contribute to the development and review of plans, policies, and guidance.
  • Engage in promotional and educational activities to enhance the visibility and reputation of Place Services.
  • Assist in managing low-value projects and contracts, ensuring adherence to budgets and specifications.
  • Maintain a client-focused culture and foster positive client relationships.
  • Seek continuous improvement in service delivery effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Enhance your commercial awareness of our business and key markets.
  • Commit to personal development and performance enhancement.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Level 6 qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Tree Inspector certification with evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Proficiency in arboricultural assessments, including inventories and visual tree inspections.
  • Experience in tree management, development management, and relevant legislation.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to prepare technical documentation.
  • A good understanding of client service principles and the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with common and specialized software for data recording and analysis.

Mobility Requirement

Please note that this role requires mobility throughout the operational area. Therefore, a valid driving license and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet mobility requirements through alternative means, is essential.
