Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Arboricultural Specialist to join our team at Essex County Council. As a key member of our arboricultural services team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on all aspects of arboriculture, including tree management, planning, and conservation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of arboricultural services, including tree surveys, assessments, and management plans.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on arboricultural matters, including tree planning, conservation, and management.
  • Develop and implement effective tree management strategies to ensure the health and safety of trees and the public.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including planning, conservation, and highways teams, to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Manage and lead a team of arborists and support staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including landowners, developers, and other local authorities.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest arboricultural research, best practices, and industry developments to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
Requirements
  • Qualified Professional Tree Inspector with strong evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Authoritative technical and subject matter expert, with comprehensive knowledge and experience of arboriculture, planning, and conservation.
  • Effective people management skills with experience of employee performance and development.
  • Strong understanding of wellbeing and H&S, with ability to identify and implement safe working practices for self and others.
  • Good understanding of commercial practices, with accomplished negotiation and communication skills and a track record of business development.
  • Able to lead specialist and multi-disciplinary project teams and manage multiple, and large scale and complex, projects from concept through to completion.
