Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated junior physician to become part of our vibrant team, delivering inpatient care in general internal medicine along with gastroenterology and hepatology. This full-time role is tailored for physicians at the ST3+/senior SHO/registrar level, providing a developmental pathway before advancing to a higher specialty training position. Candidates should have completed internal medicine training (IMT) or its equivalent.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the acute General Medical service. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the general medical on-call rota with a frequency of 1:6.
  • Managing the acute care of gastroenterology and hepatology inpatients.
  • Overseeing general medical inpatients under the gastroenterology team in a ward-based setting.
  • Collaborating with a team of consultants and junior doctors.
  • Engaging in a 24/7 emergency consultant-led endoscopy service.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Clerking patients during daytime, weekends, and night shifts as part of the on-call team.
  • Leading or participating in daily ward rounds.
  • Identifying and managing clinical issues effectively.
  • Prescribing medications safely and accurately.
  • Maintaining precise and relevant medical records.
  • Managing time and clinical priorities efficiently.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Utilizing evidence and guidelines to enhance patient care.
  • Acting professionally at all times.
  • Addressing ethical and legal considerations in patient management.
  • Educating patients and fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
  • Participating in a consultant-supervised outpatient clinic and endoscopy list weekly.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria include:

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • Full GMC Registration.
  • A minimum of three years post-qualification experience.
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
  • ALS certification.

Desirable criteria include:

  • Intercalated BSc or equivalent.
  • Higher degrees such as MSc, PhD, or MD.
