Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Special Education

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education position. This role will be a key contributor to the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education within the School of Education.
Responsibilities- Teach and develop courses in the Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degree programs in Special Education.
- Supervise student internships and other field experiences, advise and mentor students, hold office hours as designated by the University, engage in program development, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning.
- Provide support for program coordination and administration, including recruitment, admissions, and programming.
- Serve on Departmental, School, and University committees.
- Conduct scholarly research, publish in respected refereed scholarly journals and/or academic presses, and participate in other scholarly activities to secure external funding.
- An earned doctorate (Ph.D. /Ed. D.) in Special Education or related field from an accredited university is necessary.
- Candidates should have evidence of or demonstrated potential for inclusive teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level that builds engaging, relevant, and authentic learning experiences for students.
- Candidates should have evidence of an established or developing research agenda that informs teaching and practice in special education.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching experience at the college or university level and considerable practice with face-to-face and online course delivery modalities.
- Candidates eligible for a Commonwealth of Virginia Professional License with an endorsement in Special Education and previous experience as a P-12 special education teacher are highly preferred.
- Candidates with experience advising undergraduate and/or graduate students, developing collaborative partnerships with campus units and organizations, and active involvement in professional associations and/or in partnerships in the field are also preferred.
