Job Description

Role: Shipping Operations Manager

Salary: Competitive

Location: Hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days in the office

The Shipping Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of shipping strategies and daily operations. It is essential to have a thorough understanding of all business activities and possess excellent commercial acumen and communication skills.

A strong understanding of shipping, import/export, and freight forwarding is crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster strong relationships with clients, ensuring innovative solutions and compliance with UK legislation.
  • Collaborate with Service Partners to ensure service levels are met and client service levels are maintained.
  • Review pricing strategies and conduct profit margin analysis to maintain competitiveness.
  • Participate actively in day-to-day operations for shipping, import/export, and freight forwarding requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place, design out risk of error, and implement procedures.
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives for freight forwarding, shipping, and import/export services.
  • Identify and drive leads to the business, ensuring high levels of successful engagement.
  • Support leadership in defining function and objectives, strategy, and executing initiatives.
  • Assist in cross-functional process analysis and development of effective policies and procedures for the UK office.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret external and internal data, and write reports.
  • Deliver exceptional levels of customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Contribute to the ongoing program of developments in software systems to deliver business efficiencies and improved customer experience, as well as continuously looking to improve department performance to support business goals.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Proven experience as a Shipping Manager or similar role.
  • Solid knowledge of shipping, import/export, and freight forwarding procedures.
  • Experience with preparing financial reports, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Strong quantitative, problem-solving, and communications skills are required.
  • Ability to set priorities, multi-task, meet critical deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and motivated self-starter with good interpersonal communication skills.
