Overview of the Position

At Balfour Beatty, we are dedicated to shaping projects that enhance communities and significantly influence daily life. We are seeking a Project Engineer to contribute to our efforts in delivering impactful infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Construction Manager and Engineering Manager in the strategic planning and execution of construction initiatives.
  • Oversee assigned elements of the project timeline as directed by the Project Manager, ensuring the efficient management of submittal approvals, timely material deliveries, and adherence to schedules and budgets.

Essential Duties:

  • Guarantee that project packages are delivered on schedule, within budget, and meet safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with established design practices and relevant technical standards.
  • Strive for minimal rework in project execution.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Project Manager/Construction Manager to identify and manage commercial and operational risks effectively.
  • Familiarize yourself with the applicable NEC 4/4 ECC commercial terms and conditions pertinent to your project.
  • Work alongside the Senior Project Manager/Construction Manager to foster positive customer relationships throughout the project lifecycle, including managing changes and decision-making processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive records in line with the mechanical control sheet, encompassing RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, Record Drawings, and other project communications.
  • Ensure the document control sheet is kept up to date and that team members are informed of any potential impacts.
  • Plan and organize resources such as equipment, access, labor, and materials in alignment with project requirements, including procurement activities.
  • Prepare and review the WPP and ITP for specific activities to ensure quality assurance mechanisms are in place, four weeks prior to the commencement of work.
  • Draft detailed site instructions for review and issuance by the Project Management team, outlining required works, locations, program impacts, cost implications, and references to any client-led changes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in supporting the delivery of major projects within the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries where safety and quality are paramount.
  • HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • APM qualification is advantageous.
  • SMSTS / IOSH certification.
  • Previous experience in engineering roles within a nuclear context.
  • Familiarity with the installation of environmental monitoring systems.
  • Ability to obtain necessary security clearances.
  • High integrity and professionalism.
  • Strong focus on meeting and exceeding customer expectations.
  • Knowledge of Project Management methodologies.
  • Excellent people management skills in a unionized environment.
