Governance Lead (part time, 0.6 FTE)

Key Information:

  • This is a part-time (0.6 FTE), permanent position;
  • Your work schedule can be arranged over 3, 4, or 5 days;
  • Starting salary of £27,699 per annum (full-time equivalent is £46,265);
  • Hybrid working arrangement available;
  • The successful candidate must be able to commit to a minimum of 4 days per month in the office, along with approximately 12 additional days for in-person meetings.

Role Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this position is to oversee governance functions, including council and committee management, non-executive appointments, EDIB initiatives, and daily governance operations.

This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of governance structures and ensuring the effective functioning of councils and committees.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing all governance-related activities;
  • Organizing and facilitating meetings, preparing minutes, and compiling information packets;
  • Collaborating with committee chairs and the Council Chair to maintain clear management lines;
  • Supporting and mentoring new team members, ensuring they are well-informed and comfortable in their roles;
  • Working collaboratively with the team to provide administrative support and achieve successful outcomes.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have experience in:

  • Operating within a similar governance framework;
  • Coordinating non-executive meetings, distributing materials, and arranging for observers and other participants;
  • Attending non-executive meetings, accurately recording notes, and drafting minutes;
  • Creating agendas and writing governance-related reports that present evidence-based options and recommendations;
  • Partnering with Chairs of Councils/Committees to facilitate ongoing development.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of governance structures and key terminology;
  • Current knowledge of equality, diversity, and inclusion laws, principles, and best practices, with the ability to apply this knowledge holistically to governance activities;
  • Proven ability to build and nurture relationships with staff and governance structures based on trust, respect, and open communication;
  • Skill in adjusting communication styles to ensure messages are received sensitively and effectively;
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others to achieve organizational goals and support colleagues in meeting deadlines.
