Position Overview:

This pivotal role within the National Probation Service is dedicated to forging and nurturing partnerships with a diverse array of current and prospective organizations, clients, and stakeholders.

The position necessitates collaboration with both voluntary and statutory entities.

The individual in this role will guarantee the availability of adequate work placements that adhere to the quality benchmarks outlined in the Community Payback Guidance, ensuring effective execution of court sentences.

  • Creating a schedule of safe working practices for projects and maintaining a project file in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Fostering positive relationships with beneficiaries and stakeholders through meetings and site visits as necessary to manage relationships and enhance the perception of the National Probation Service within community networks.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment for staff, service users, and beneficiaries at all Community Payback work sites, in accordance with health and safety legislation and NPS policies.
  • Monitoring placements for compliance with quality standards and taking necessary actions to enhance or terminate placements that do not meet these standards.
  • Coordinating tools, equipment, appropriate clothing, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other resources utilized in Community Payback placements, ensuring all equipment meets health and safety requirements and that users are trained in safe usage.
  • Providing relevant health and safety training to staff as needed, in line with the service delivery plan.
  • Supporting investigations into health and safety incidents, ensuring that serious incidents, including near misses, are reported and that lessons learned are disseminated within the team.
  • Utilizing electronic and innovative means to solicit nominations for new placements from the public and promote Community Payback, adhering to NPS guidelines.
  • Liaising with probation practitioners as needed to exchange information and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Participating in the planning, delivery, and review of the service user induction process.
  • Recruiting, supporting, and coordinating mentors to encourage service user compliance, engagement, and access to local support networks.
  • Covering the role of CP supervisor as necessary to prevent the cancellation of work placements for operational reasons.
  • Contributing to the training of CP supervisors and beneficiaries as appropriate.
