POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role of the BCG Vaccination Specialist involves ensuring the safe and effective administration of the community infant BCG vaccination program within a designated area.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct clinical evaluations of eligible infants and administer the BCG vaccine intradermally.
  • Provide guidance to parents and guardians regarding the BCG vaccine, including aftercare instructions.
  • Engage in identifying and safeguarding children at risk in line with local safeguarding protocols.
  • Maintain comprehensive training records (BLS, Anaphylaxis, and Immunisation).
  • Offer mentorship and support to junior colleagues.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration with families and stakeholders to ensure a coordinated service.
  • Keep accurate and confidential records of all interactions.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Advise on other necessary childhood vaccinations for infants attending the clinic.
  • Report any issues or clinical incidents to management promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the role.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Registered Nurse (NMC registered) – adult or child branch, active on the NMC register.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Familiarity with:
    • National and Local policies regarding the BCG vaccination program.
    • Patient Group Directions (PGD).
    • Child protection protocols.
    • Safeguarding Children and Adults.
  • Knowledge of immunisation guidelines and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills with both children and adults.
  • Experience in paediatric immunisation and medication management.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to travel between locations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being capable of independent work.
  • Proof of immunity to Hepatitis B.
