The Head of Excise will provide leadership to the Excise Branch, setting clear strategic priorities and delivering high-quality work for Ministers. This role involves advising and supporting the Chancellor and other ministers on excise tax-related matters, including alcohol duties, tobacco duties, and the Soft Drinks Industry Levy.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the Excise Branch, setting strategic priorities and supporting staff development.
  2. Advise and support the Chancellor and other ministers on excise tax-related matters.
  3. Coordinate the development and delivery of the Vaping Products Duty, engaging with HMRC, DHSC, businesses, and public health partners.
  4. Develop and advise ministers on strategic reform to excise taxes, contributing to the government's fiscal objectives and broader missions.
  5. Build collaborative relationships with counterparts and seniors to ensure informed decision-making and effective communication of government objectives and policies.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of complex policy issues, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills. They will be able to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
