Camberley, Surrey, United Kingdom Southern Co-op Full time

At Southern Co-op, we prioritize people over everything else. As a member-owned organization, we are dedicated to serving our local communities with care and compassion.

We are thrilled to announce an opportunity to join our Funeralcare team as a Funeral Care Operative.
This position is offered on a casual basis (bank working) as needed, with shifts scheduled from Monday to Friday and an on-call rota for out-of-hours support.

In this vital role, you will provide exceptional end-of-life care and support to the deceased and their families during their time of need. Your responsibilities will include the seamless execution of funerals, which encompasses the collection, transportation, and preparation of the deceased, as well as driving our vehicles and serving as a conductor or bearer during services. This role is both physically and emotionally demanding, requiring a compassionate and empathetic demeanor, along with the ability to maintain resilience under pressure.

We are looking for an individual who is deeply passionate about fostering relationships, assisting others, and delivering outstanding service to those who are grieving. While prior experience in the funeral sector is not mandatory, Southern Co-op is committed to supporting your professional growth and providing comprehensive training.

Requirements:

A full, clean UK driving license for both manual and automatic vehicles. Candidates must be over 25 for vehicle fleet insurance purposes.

Key Responsibilities:

Collecting the deceased and transporting them to one of our funeral homes, which may involve challenging circumstances. Assisting in the dressing and preparation of the deceased, including arrangements for viewing and placing them into the coffin or casket. Driving our vehicles with care and ensuring they are maintained in pristine condition for each service. Acting as a bearer during all types of funerals and removals. Building strong relationships within our local communities while serving as a trusted representative of our funeral care services. This role involves manual handling tasks.

Essential Skills:

Excellent communication and listening abilities. Demonstrated resilience and capability to work under pressure. High levels of empathy and compassion. Flexibility to support our on-call service, including availability during evenings, weekends, and overnight, as well as covering for holidays and busy periods.

Benefits:

20% discount in stores. Healthcare cash plan. Share incentive plan. NEST pension. Cycle-to-work scheme. Opportunities for skill development through apprenticeships and in-house training programs.

We appreciate your interest in joining our team.
