SEN Support Assistant

A dedicated institution focused on Communication and Interaction for students aged three to nineteen years with Autism Spectrum Disorder is seeking passionate support assistants. The institution serves 108 students, providing a nurturing environment for ages 4 to 19.

Students engage in a comprehensive, tailored curriculum that embraces diverse teaching methodologies, reflecting contemporary educational theories.

All students face notable challenges related to the 'Triad of Impairment' central to autism, which includes significant hurdles in language and communication, social interactions, and inflexible behavior patterns. Your role is pivotal in helping students navigate and surmount these challenges.

The institution fosters a positive and professional atmosphere, looking for enthusiastic and motivated staff who are ready to embrace challenges. We value the individuality of each student and provide a customized approach to education.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all students feel secure, safe, and confident in the support provided.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-cared-for educational environment that students and families can take pride in.
  • Encourage the cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral, and physical development of students through the institution's curriculum.
  • Handle and de-escalate challenging behaviors when necessary, and provide basic personal care as required.
  • Assist the educator in monitoring, assessing, recording, and reporting on student progress in line with institutional policies.

Expectations from the Role
  • Exhibit a positive attitude while working collaboratively within a dedicated class team.
  • Under the guidance of the educator, plan and implement learning activities for individuals and groups.
  • Adhere to the established Code of Conduct.

Key Information
  • Opportunity to work with wonderful individual children and young adults.
  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday.
  • Term-time only role.
  • PAYE contract.

Compensation
  • Competitive hourly rate starting at £12.90+, based on experience and additional responsibilities.

The institution is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, expecting all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This position requires an enhanced Child only Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Applicants must either hold one or be willing to apply for one.

All candidates must possess the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. For further details, please refer to the institution's website.

All quoted pay rates include 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This position is temporary, with the potential for a permanent role in the future.

The institution is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We conduct safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with statutory guidance.

We provide all registered candidates with free child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, with full assistance provided.
