Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Formulate and execute comprehensive accessibility strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance user experience.
  • Quality Assurance & Evaluations: Shape the quality assurance and testing framework; perform audits and assessments to pinpoint areas for enhancement.
  • Collaboration & Execution: Partner with design, development, and product teams to weave accessibility into the fabric of all services; oversee the execution of the Internal Accessibility Center of Excellence testing process.
  • Training & Expertise: Offer expert advice, training, and support on accessibility best practices and assistive technologies to enhance team capabilities.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Guide and mentor a team of accessibility specialists; manage talent development and succession planning initiatives.
  • Representation & Strategic Decision Making: Act as a representative in external forums and events; make informed decisions regarding accessibility testing methodologies.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and regulations in accessibility, recommending actions to ensure compliance.

  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WAI ARIA to assist service owners with remediation efforts.
  • Audit Proficiency: Experience in performing comprehensive accessibility audits and familiarity with evaluation tools and testing methodologies, including manual testing.

Essential Qualifications

  • Regulatory Acumen: Extensive knowledge of the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, the Equality Act 2010, and the implications of non-compliance.
  • WCAG Knowledge: Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 standards.
  • Assistive Technology Expertise: Proficient in utilizing assistive technology tools for testing purposes.
  • Leadership Background: Proven track record in leading and managing teams effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within a large, multifaceted organization with a variety of digital products and services.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and their application in accessibility projects.
  • Knowledge of accessibility testing tools and automation frameworks.
  • Certification or formal training in accessibility standards and best practices.
