Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Accessibility Strategy Development: Formulate and execute comprehensive accessibility strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance user experience.
  • Quality Assurance and Evaluation: Shape the quality assurance and testing framework; perform audits and evaluations to pinpoint areas for enhancement.
  • Collaborative Implementation: Partner with design, development, and product teams to weave accessibility into all services; oversee the execution of the Internal Accessibility Center of Excellence testing process.
  • Expert Training and Support: Offer specialized guidance, training, and assistance on accessibility best practices and assistive technologies.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Direct and mentor a team of accessibility experts; manage talent development and succession planning initiatives.
  • External Representation: Represent the organization in external discussions and events; make informed decisions regarding accessibility testing.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and regulations in accessibility, recommending necessary actions to ensure compliance.

  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WAI ARIA to assist service owners with remediation efforts.
  • Audit Proficiency: Experience in executing comprehensive accessibility audits and familiarity with evaluation tools and testing methodologies, including manual testing.

Essential Qualifications

  • Regulatory Acumen: In-depth knowledge of the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, the Equality Act 2010, and the implications of non-compliance.
  • WCAG Knowledge: Extensive understanding of WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 standards.
  • Assistive Technology Skills: Proficient in testing with various assistive technology tools.
  • Leadership Background: Proven track record in leading and managing teams effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Large Organizations: Background in a large, complex organization with a variety of digital products and services.
  • Agile Methodologies: Familiarity with agile practices and their application in accessibility initiatives.
  • Testing Tools Knowledge: Understanding of accessibility testing tools and automation frameworks.
  • Certification: Formal training or certification in accessibility standards and best practices.
