Job Description

Job Summary:

Brown & Brown Europe is seeking a seasoned Underwriting Director to lead our Property Underwriting division. As a key member of our senior leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing underwriting and pricing strategies across our personal and commercial lines property portfolios in the UK & Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee underwriting, pricing, and loss ratio performance
  • Establish and maintain relationships with carrier partners, including monthly meetings and quarterly business reviews
  • Define and implement underwriting and pricing strategies
  • Collaborate with actuaries to monitor the development of open and closed underwriting years
  • Oversight and sign-off of all products from a technical underwriting perspective
  • Manage technical and pricing controls
  • Support the Governance team with internal and external audits and product governance
  • Prepare and present Board and Executive Committee packs as required
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and the Senior Managers & Certification Regime
  • Sponsor and participate in the delivery of technical underwriting training

Requirements:

  • Proven track record in senior underwriting leadership within a Managing General Agent (MGA), insurer, or Lloyd's environment
  • 10+ years of UK property underwriting experience
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of personal and/or commercial lines underwriting (ideally both)
  • Non-standard home and/or real estate experience
  • Policy wording drafting experience
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships (insurer partners and third-party suppliers)
  • Experience creating and implementing underwriting and pricing strategies
  • ACII qualified

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in the MGA market
  • Understanding of the non-standard home and real estate markets
  • Experience with contract negotiations
  • Creation and delivery of underwriting training
  • Knowledge and experience of writing business in Southern Ireland
  • European underwriting experience
  • Data and analytics skills
