Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a skilled and passionate Consultant Hepatologist with a vision, outstanding interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership abilities, to become a part of the esteemed team at King's College Hospital. This role will also encompass the oversight of non-medical prescribing within the hepatology department and at the Trust level.
King's College Hospital (KCH) is globally recognized as a premier center for specialized liver care, providing both secondary and tertiary services to patients across a wide region. The hepatology division at King's includes various sub-specialties, ensuring comprehensive care for liver-related conditions.
We seek a highly driven, dynamic professional with substantial clinical or hospital-based experience to join our team. The successful candidate will be expected to exemplify teamwork and serve as a role model, demonstrating initiative and enthusiasm to enhance, manage, and innovate hepatology services while delivering a high-quality, evidence-based, clinically-led service. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and participate in audits and service evaluations to ensure qualitative improvements and cost-effective practices.
Main Responsibilities
• Act as a deputy for the Principal Consultant in the Hepatology Care Group.
• Serve as a specialist role model and expert in the medical management within the Hepatology Care Group.
• Lead and manage clinical services in the Hepatology Care Group in collaboration with the Principal Consultant.
• Develop and engage in outpatient clinics to provide and promote high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered care.
• Function as an independent prescriber to optimize patient care within the Hepatology Care Group.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary rounds, delivering and promoting high-quality, cost-effective, patient-focused care.
• Advocate for safe medication practices within the Hepatology specialties.
• Collaborate with the Associate Chief Pharmacist to develop, manage, and support non-medical prescribing within the department and the Trust.
• Provide expert input into the Trust's Non-Medical Prescribing Group, including the management of Patient Group Directions and Written Instructions.
• Oversee the development, implementation, and auditing of local clinical guidelines.
• Mentor and train pharmacy staff at the ward level.
• Deliver education and training to healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust.
• Engage in financial reporting, drug usage analysis, expenditure forecasting, and budget management.
• Participate in clinical research and audits to enhance practice.
