Senior Pharmacist for Clinical Commissioning (NHS England)

Are you an innovative and proactive pharmacist dedicated to enhancing the efficiency of healthcare resources? An exceptional opportunity has emerged to become part of the commissioning team at Barts Health NHS Trust as a Senior Pharmacist for Clinical Commissioning. We seek a driven professional who will maximize the value derived from medication use. This role involves close collaboration with the London Specialised Commissioning Team (SCT) NHS England (NHSE), Barts Health NHS Trust, and North-East London (NEL) Integrated Care System (ICS) colleagues to foster patient safety, improve outcomes, and enhance the value of High-Cost Drugs (HCDs). The successful candidate will oversee the effective implementation and monitoring of HCDs, showcasing strong leadership capabilities and the confidence to engage with senior colleagues across finance, commissioning, and clinical settings. Additionally, you will partner with the pharmacy systems analyst to enhance the quality and accuracy of HCD data. As a vital member of the NEL Sub-regional Immunoglobulin assessment panel, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the responsible use of Immunoglobulin.

Main Responsibilities

We invite applications from individuals with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively across the healthcare system. • Identify and facilitate the execution of Quality, Innovation, Productivity, and Prevention (QIPP) initiatives and enhance medicines optimization programs for high-cost drugs, collaborating with other local trusts to ensure uniformity across the healthcare economy.
  • Implement and manage the approval processes, appropriate utilization, and auditing of high-cost medications associated with specialized services.
  • Ensure that treatments endorsed by NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance (TAG) and the Clinical Priorities Advisory Group (CPAG) for NHSE commissioned HCDs are effectively integrated within the Trust.
  • Provide professional and independent counsel to the London SCT pharmacy lead, Barts Health Lead Pharmacist, Medicines Commissioning & Pathways pharmacist, and other commissioners and system partners to identify and articulate relevant financial and implementation concerns for NICE TAGs/CPAG policies at an early stage.
