Senior Pharmacist for Clinical Commissioning (NHS England)

This role involves collaboration with the London Specialised Commissioning Team (SCT) NHS England (NHSE), Barts Health NHS Trust, and North-East London (NEL) Integrated Care System (ICS) partners to foster patient safety, achieve improved health outcomes, and maximize the value derived from High-Cost Drugs (HCDs). The successful candidate will oversee the effective implementation and assessment of HCDs, showcasing outstanding leadership capabilities and the ability to influence senior stakeholders, including finance teams, commissioners, and healthcare professionals.

Main Responsibilities

  • Identifying and facilitating the execution of Quality, Innovation, Productivity, and Prevention (QIPP) initiatives and enhancing value and medication optimization programs for high-cost drugs, while ensuring alignment with other local trusts.
  • Implementing and overseeing processes for the approval, appropriate utilization, and auditing of high-cost medications associated with specialized services.
  • Ensuring that treatments endorsed by NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance (TAG) and the Clinical Priorities Advisory Group (CPAG) for NHSE commissioned HCDs are executed within the Trust according to established protocols.
  • Providing professional and independent counsel to the London SCT pharmacy lead, Barts Health Lead Pharmacist, Medicines Commissioning & Pathways pharmacist, and other stakeholders to ensure relevant financial and implementation matters for NICE TAGs/CPAG policies are recognized and addressed promptly.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting the SCT pharmacy lead and Barts Health Lead Pharmacist, Medicines Commissioning & Pathways pharmacist during the business planning and contracting processes for HCDs, including the adoption of commissioning policies and protocols for high-cost treatments not covered by NICE recommendations.
  • Providing a robust interface between commissioners (NHSE) and providers within the local healthcare landscape.
  • Offering leadership and support to the Sub Regional Immunoglobulin Assessment Panel (SR-IAP).
